Bag & Purse Identifier
Identify a designer handbag from a photo and get a ballpark resale value.
Built by Abdullah Yılmaz
Handbag Authentication uses AI to recognize handbags and purses from a photo — suggesting the brand and likely model — and gives you a ballpark resale value to start from. It’s a fast first look before you buy, sell, list or authenticate a designer bag.
Scan the front of the bag, then the logo, hardware and interior stamp, and the app returns a plain-language read of what it sees. It’s built for resellers pricing stock, shoppers checking a listing, and owners sorting out an inherited or forgotten bag — with the honest caveat that identifying a bag is not the same as proving it’s authentic.

What it does
Brand and model suggestion
Recognizes designer handbags and purses from a single photo and suggests the likely brand and model.
Ballpark resale value
Turns what it sees into a rough market value range, so you have a number to research from.
Designed for listings and closets
Works on bags you’re holding and on photos of bags you’re considering, to sanity-check a listing before you commit.
A first step, not a verdict
Points you to the details that matter — stitching, hardware, codes — before a professional authentication.
How to identify a designer bag in four steps
-
Photograph the bag properly
Front straight-on, then close-ups of the logo, hardware engravings, the interior heat stamp and any date code or serial tag. Use daylight and a plain background.
-
Scan it
Handbag Authentication suggests the brand and likely model and gives a ballpark value range to start from.
-
Check the details a photo can’t settle
Stitch spacing and straightness, weight and engraving of the hardware, material texture and smell, and whether the code or serial format fits the model’s era.
-
Authenticate before money changes hands
For high-value bags, use a professional authentication service or a reputable resale platform that authenticates.
When to use it
- You’re buying a pre-owned designer bag and want to check the listing’s brand, model and price make sense.
- You’re reselling and need a starting price for a bag you’re about to list.
- You inherited or found a bag and don’t know the brand, model or what it might be worth.
- You’re sorting a closet and deciding which bags are worth selling, storing or authenticating.
What a photo scan can and can’t tell you about a handbag
| Question | From a photo | Needs an authenticator |
|---|---|---|
| Brand and likely model | Usually | Rare or limited variants |
| Material and color family | Often | Exact leather type and treatment |
| Approximate era | Sometimes, from design and codes | Production date from chip or code |
| Condition | Visible wear | Interior odor, hidden repairs |
| Authenticity | Obvious fakes only | Yes — always for valuable bags |
| Resale value | Ballpark range | Offer based on verified condition |
Frequently asked questions
Can it confirm a bag is authentic?
No app can prove authenticity from a photo — counterfeits copy logos, codes and packaging. Handbag Authentication is a fast first step; for high-value bags, confirm with a professional authenticator.
How accurate is the value estimate?
It’s a ballpark to orient you. Real resale value depends on condition, completeness (dust bag, receipt), demand for the model and verified authenticity.
Which brands does it recognize?
It’s built for designer handbags and purses and is strongest on widely sold models from major houses; rare, vintage or limited pieces are harder to pin down.
Which devices does it run on?
It’s available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android.
Can a bag identifier app tell if a bag is fake?
It can flag an obviously wrong logo or model, but it can’t authenticate. High-quality counterfeits copy logos, date codes and dust bags, so valuable bags need a physical check by a professional.
How do I find out what brand my purse is?
Look for the heat stamp or logo plate inside, a leather tag with numbers, the lining pattern and the hardware engraving — then scan the bag to match the brand and model.
Where is the date code on a Louis Vuitton bag?
Usually stamped on a small leather tab or inside a pocket or seam. Bags made from 2021 carry a microchip instead. Fastemy’s free decoder reads the code’s factory and date.
How much is my designer bag worth?
Resale value depends on brand, model, material, condition and whether the bag is verifiably authentic. Hermès and Chanel classics hold value best; most bags sell well below retail.
