Here’s a number you won’t see in the App Store screenshots of most calorie apps: the vast majority of people who download one stop opening it within a couple of weeks. Not because they stopped caring about their health — but because the app turned a five-second job into a chore.
We kept running into the same thing. You eat a sandwich, open the app, and now you’re searching a database, scrolling brands, picking “medium” vs “large,” fighting three tabs and a popup asking you to upgrade. By the time you’ve logged lunch you’ve forgotten why you cared. So this piece is partly about a problem worth understanding — and partly about FIT AI, our new app, which is our answer to it.
FIT AI — Calorie & Diet Tracker
Fast, clean, and genuinely simple. Log a meal by voice, photo or barcode and get back to your day.
Save it on the App StoreWhy most calorie trackers get quietly deleted
If you’ve abandoned a food tracker before, it probably wasn’t willpower. It was friction. A few patterns show up again and again:
- The dashboard problem. The home screen tries to show everything — rings, graphs, macros, streaks, ads, tips — so it shows nothing clearly.
- The database problem. Logging “an apple” means searching, comparing entries, and guessing portion sizes. Multiply that by every meal.
- The guilt problem. Miss a day and the app greets you with a broken streak and red numbers, so you stop opening it to avoid the nagging.
- The speed problem. If logging takes longer than eating, you won’t do it for long. Simple as that.
Notice that none of these are about you. They’re design choices. Which means they can be un-chosen.
Cluttered vs. calm
Same job, two philosophies. On the left, the everything-at-once approach. On the right, what we aimed for.
Illustrations of the two approaches, not actual screenshots.
So we built the opposite
FIT AI starts from a single idea: the home screen is one ring. It fills up as you eat toward your daily budget, and it only turns celebratory when you actually hit your target — no fake confetti, no scolding. Everything else earns its place under that ring or stays out of the way.
The tone matters too. Go a little over? It says something like “a little over today — tomorrow’s a fresh start,” not a wall of red. Tools that respect you are the ones you keep.
The best tracker isn’t the one with the most features. It’s the one you’ll still open tomorrow.
Logging should take one breath
There’s exactly one big “+” in the middle of the tab bar, and it’s the only place you log anything. Tap it and choose how you want to talk to it — the AI figures out whether it’s food, a drink, water, or a workout, then shows it back for a one-glance confirm.
Log the same flat white three days in a row and it becomes a one-tap suggestion. The app learns your routine instead of making you re-enter it.
Simple on the surface, serious underneath
Simple doesn’t mean thin. Under that calm home screen, the essentials are all there — they just don’t shout.
How a full day looks
Who it’s for (and who it isn’t)
Being honest about fit is part of respecting your time.
You’ll like it if…
- You’ve quit calorie apps before because they were exhausting
- You want one clear number, not a dashboard
- You’d log more if it were faster — voice and photo do the heavy lifting
- You want it to sync cleanly with Apple Health
It’s probably not for you if…
- You want a giant recipe database to browse for fun
- You enjoy configuring dozens of charts and settings
- You need clinical-grade nutrition tracking supervised by a professional
A note on the numbers: AI estimates from a photo or a quick description are exactly that — estimates. They’re fast and close enough to build the habit, and you can always tweak the calories before you save. Consistency beats decimal-point precision every time.
