Shoe Scanner App: Real or Fake?
Scan a sneaker to see the model, its condition, an authenticity read and a resale estimate.
Built by Abdullah Yılmaz
Shoe Scanner turns one photo of a sneaker into a full reading: the brand, model and colorway it appears to be, a condition grade, an original-or-replica read with a confidence level, and a resale estimate set against retail and current market prices. It’s built for the moments in sneakers that cost money — buying a pair second-hand, pricing a pair to sell, and deciding whether a pair is worth paying to authenticate.
It isn’t the shoe scanner at airport security or the foot scanner in a running store; it reads the shoes themselves. Every result is an estimate from a photo: the authenticity read points at what looks right or wrong in the stitching and logo, and a confident “authentic” is a strong first signal, not a certificate. Save pairs to a collection to follow their value, and export a report to share with a buyer or seller.

What it does
Brand, model and colorway
Names the pair from a photo — brand, model, colorway, category, materials and release year — so you know exactly what you’re pricing or buying.
Original or replica read
Checks what the photo shows, like stitching and logo geometry, and returns an authenticity read with a confidence level and the reasons behind it.
Condition and resale estimate
Grades the visible condition, from deadstock to worn, and sets a resale estimate beside retail and current market prices.
Reports and collection
Export a shareable report for a listing or a negotiation, and save pairs to your collection to watch their value over time.
How to scan a pair of sneakers in four steps
-
Take one clean photo
The whole shoe from the side, in daylight, on a plain background, with no filter. Keep the logo and the stitching in sharp focus — that is what the read relies on.
-
Scan it
Shoe Scanner names the brand, model and colorway, grades the condition, gives an original-or-replica read with its reasons, and estimates the resale price.
-
Check what a photo can’t
Match the style code on the tag inside the tongue to the box label, look at the stitching inside the shoe, and feel the materials, the weight and the smell of the glue.
-
Authenticate before you pay
For an expensive pair, use a professional authentication service or a marketplace that inspects pairs in hand, and keep the exported report for the conversation with the seller.
When to use it
- You’re buying a pair on a resale app or marketplace and want to check the model, condition and price before you pay.
- You’re selling sneakers and need a starting price and a clean report to put in front of buyers.
- You found a pair in a closet or a thrift store and want to know what they are and whether they’re worth anything.
- You collect sneakers and want one place that remembers every pair and what it’s worth now.
What a photo scan can and can’t tell you about sneakers
| Question | From a photo | Needs the pair in hand |
|---|---|---|
| Brand, model and colorway | Usually, from the silhouette and color blocking | Look-alike colorways and collabs: the style code on the tag |
| Condition | Creases, sole yellowing, scuffs and stains | Insole wear, heel drag, odor, repairs |
| Original or replica | Visible red flags: stitching, logo shape, print | Materials, glue, weight, tag and box label match |
| Size | No | The size tag inside the tongue |
| Resale value | An estimate beside retail and market prices | A real offer, once size, condition and box are known |
Frequently asked questions
What does Shoe Scanner tell me about a pair?
The brand, model, colorway, category, materials and release year it recognizes; a condition grade; an original-or-replica read with a confidence level; and a resale estimate shown next to retail and current market prices.
Can it prove my sneakers are real?
No app can certify authenticity from a photo, because good replicas copy exactly what a camera sees. Shoe Scanner’s read is a fast first check; for an expensive pair, finish with a professional authenticator or a marketplace that inspects pairs in hand.
Which shoes does it recognize best?
Widely sold sneakers from major brands, where there are plenty of photos and sales to compare against. Rare samples, player editions and heavily customized pairs are harder to pin down.
Which devices does it run on?
It’s available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store.
Can an app tell if shoes are fake?
It can flag a pair that looks wrong and give its confidence, but it can’t certify one as real. The best replicas copy logos, stitching and tags — exactly what a camera sees — so expensive pairs need a physical check by a professional authenticator.
Is this the shoe scanner used at airports?
No. Airport shoe scanners screen footwear for security, and foot scanners in shoe stores measure your feet. Shoe Scanner is a phone app that identifies sneakers and estimates their condition, authenticity and resale value from a photo.
How does Shoe Scanner estimate a price?
It shows a resale estimate next to the pair’s retail price and current market price. Treat it as a range to research from: size, condition, the original box and verified authenticity move what a buyer actually pays.
Is Shoe Scanner free?
It’s free to download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad; check the listing for current features and any in-app purchases. There is no Android version.
